I was dumping T-Mobile !so I went to Verizon and asked them to switch me to their service and I wanted eSim, they said it needed to be a physical sim ,.. why?

You simply received bad info from an apparently under-informed VZ representative.
Verizon can most definitely provision an eSIM into an iPhone13; leaving the nanoSIM slot unoccupied and available for potential future needs.

iPhone 13 pro max uses a physical SIM card slot.
Maybe your iPhone is locked on to T-Mobile Carrier.
A very real possibility.
That would inhibit operation on a nanoSIM as well.
