Am I forced to setup my iphone with esim?

So I bought an iPhone 11 from consumer cellular, and for some reason when I go to cellular in settings, it says set up cellular, but then it only brings up options to setup esim, my carrier (consumer cellular) gave me a physical sim, I called them back, they told me to contact apple, contacted them no help there either. So how do I set up my phone without a sim? Is there a way to get rid of it without it being setup already? I really need it for work and for friends.
