iPhone 14 Pro - intermittent Wifi

Hi anyone else experiencing this issue - when connected to Wi-Fi I get this occasional issue where my phone sort of stops / pauses - it happens in web pages in safari or chrome which stop loading completely; or an app which fails to load or refresh content. It’s intermittent but getting to the point where I’m switching off Wi-Fi and relying on 5G. The issue does not reoccur in 5G. I’m on iOS 16.0.2.

Steps I’ve taken to fix this issue include:

1) Switching Wi-Fi off and on

2) Switching iPhone on / off

3) Restarting iPhone

4) Reset network settings to factory

5) Removed iPhone from network and rejoining

6) Reset Wi-Fi Network

7) Clearing cache and settings in Safari & Chrome

Thanks

VP

I’m horribly disappointed with my iPhone 14 pro. Started off with the useless move to iOS app that didn’t migrate most of my messages and photos. Then the iMessage and Wi-Fi issues that everyone else is reporting. I trusted that the iOS updates would fix it, but they have not addressed any of it. I’ve followed all the fixes to no avail. I would have returned this brick of uselessness within the 14 days but I was told that the iOS fixes would be forthcoming to address these issues. Still nothing. I’m just waiting for the class action suit to remedy some of this. I might just sell it and go back to a Samsung Galaxy. My super old S7 works perfectly on the same Wi-Fi network that my 14 pro refuses to work on. $1200 not well spent.

VPN that is installed can screw up data flow even when it is off. To fix this you must delete the VPN profile. And if you transferred your content from the iPhone 11 to the 14 Pro and did not delete Nord VPN and reinstall it that is your problem.

One important fact is that when you install VPN it configures itself to the specific hardware, iOS version and network that the phone uses. If any of those change it can break the VPN. So any time you change any of these you need to delete the VPN app and profile, restart your phone then add them back (if you still want to use VPN) so it can configure itself to the new environment.

Something to think about→Don't use VPN - GITHUB

There are two legitimate purposes for using VPN:

  • To allow access to a private network such as a school or business when you are not on site.
  • To allow access outside of a country with a repressive government that has restricted Internet access. (This has suddenly become more important)

Any other use is risky, and can lead to problems like the one discussed in this thread. VPN disguises your location by making you appear to be somewhere else in the world. But you usually can’t control that “somewhere else”, and if it is in a location that an app isn’t approved for the app won’t work. Plus the fact that the provider of the VPN knows everything about you and your location, as well as what sites you access through the VPN. So you are totally dependent on the VPN provider’s honesty. As a start, if the VPN is free, DON’T USE IT. The provider has to make money somehow, and if you aren’t paying them then they are selling your private data to make money. But even those that charge can’t necessarily be trusted. For example, a few years ago Avast was caught selling user browsing data. They claim they have stopped doing so.

You don’t really need VPN when using public Wi-Fi, because all communications between your device and the servers it accesses are end-to-end encrypted.

If you want VPN for privacy about the sites you visit, that’s not a good choice as discussed; instead you should download and use the TOR browser.

With iOS 15.2 and later for iOS/iPadOS and MacOS Monterey 12.2 and later Apple now has iCloud+ Private Relay, which is not VPN, but provides a safer browsing environment than VPN, and it doesn't spy on you→About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

I’m also having this problem - as it seems many are - on the iPhone 14 pro. Won’t connect to my Wi-Fi and intermittently connects to my mobile signal. Yet I have no problems with my iPhone 8 and iPad.

I’ve tried all the above steps and still no luck. Worked fine for a week but Stopped working five days ago (possibly after one of the updates). Any help would be appreciate appreciated and have Apple accepted this is as a known issue yet?

I have this problem too. It is prevalent in most, if not all apps that use data. My only successful workaround is to turn off WiFi and use 4g/5g. I have also carried out everything above but to no avail.

The WiFi network is irrelevant. My iPad mini 5 on the same WiFi network does not exhibit the same symptoms, so would appear iOS 16 and iPhone 14 Pro specific quite possibly.

I have also tried disabling private relay and all of the privacy/tracking toggles in the WiFi network settings. All have zero impact.

Any and all help appreciated.

I have the same problem, as does my wife. Both of our phones are IPhone 14 Pro models. Our two old iPhone 8 phones with iOS 16 have no trouble on our home network, while our new phones can’t keep a WiFi connection. We’ve tried tweaking router WiFi settings (e.g., bundling and unbundling the 5 and 2.4 signals), and tweaking iOS WiFi settings (turned private relay, private work address, etc. on and off) with no effect. We used those iOS features on our iPhone 8 phones with no problem. Our home WiFi router is an Archer AX11000 and the WiFi connection is rock solid for every device except our two new iPhone 14 Pro phones, which have identical problems. The WiFi disruptions for the two phones are not synchronized - hers drops off while mine stays connected and vice versa, so the disconnections of the two phones aren’t tied to a common cause event on the router.

Same problem. Same solutions tried. All other wifi connections are stable and functioning it is just my brand new iphone14 pro that will not retain a wifi connection. When it drops the IPv4 info drops out of the wifi network details boxes. It then tries to reconnect to a different IP address with no router details and then reconnects to the allocated IP address and the router details then show and the wifi temporarily connects. Then it drops again and around we go. Very frustrating on a brand new phone and for what looks like a known problem. Are Apple working on a fix?

Anyone else have a fix for this? My new iPhone 14 pro max does not seem to connect to Wi-Fi. I’ve tried it on 3 separate Wi-Fi networks and my phone won’t work for any. I’ve been stuck on cell data for a few weeks.

i have tried:

* restarting phone

* updating to latest iOS

* turning Wi-Fi on and off on the phone

* choosing “forget this network” and manually resetting Wi-Fi password etc.

i am not able to reset the Wi-Fi router in my current location as it is not my residence

Hey there Vestan Pance,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

It sounds like you have taken some excellent steps already. To help us isolate this problem, do you notice if this occurs on other Wi-Fi networks? If you're unsure, let's test to see if this occurs on another Wi-Fi network. This is the first step outlined here:

If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue continues, we do recommend following the rest of the steps outlined in that article. This may help resolve the issue you're describing.

Keep us posted.

Have a great day!

Well, a lawsuit would be meaningless unless there are millions of users with this problem which is clearly not the case or you would see thousands of posts about it, and it would be news in every tech publication. And all a class action suit would accomplish would be the possibility of getting maybe a $10 gift card 5-10 years from now, and making a bunch of lawyers rich. Have you gotten your $7 from the 2017 Equifax breach suit that was just settled?

And what widespread iMessage and Wi-Fi issues are you talking about? All I see is the usual smattering of Wi-Fi symptoms that probably have many different causes, and no iMessage problems. So who is everyone else?

Most likely there’s something wrong with your new phone. That’s why it comes with a 1 year warranty. Contact Apple support.

What troubleshooting have you done so far?

By far the most common cause of Wi-Fi issues is a corrupted VPN installation, so the first step is to remove (not just turn off) any VPN profiles or apps. And that can cause iMessage and many other connectivity problems also.

Have you tried resetting network settings?

Yes - I have had this since I upgraded ( no WiFi issues as works on all other devices ) - and did n’t on my IPhone 12 before that .

Virtually every website I go into ( and apps ) I either get a blank white screen or it just freezes while trying to open the website - if I switch off WIFi - try on 4g/5g it often works - and then put WiFi back on - it may work but not 100% .
Also on the Daily Mail app in particular - w- I can’t open stories / articles the first time ( I get a blank white screen ) - I can’t read them unless I “arrow “ back out and go back in - it’s driving me crackers !

Are you using VPN? If you are, delete the VPN profile and app and the problem will be fixed.

If that isn’t the issue, test with other Wi-Fi networks. If it happens with all networks (such as Starbucks) Reset Network Settings.

If it only happens with your home network then the problem MUST be with the router or with local interference→Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support. Start with rebooting your router. Then verify that the router firmware is up to date.
