iPhone 14 Pro - intermittent Wifi

Hi anyone else experiencing this issue - when connected to Wi-Fi I get this occasional issue where my phone sort of stops / pauses - it happens in web pages in safari or chrome which stop loading completely; or an app which fails to load or refresh content. It’s intermittent but getting to the point where I’m switching off Wi-Fi and relying on 5G. The issue does not reoccur in 5G. I’m on iOS 16.0.2.

Steps I’ve taken to fix this issue include:

1) Switching Wi-Fi off and on

2) Switching iPhone on / off

3) Restarting iPhone

4) Reset network settings to factory

5) Removed iPhone from network and rejoining

6) Reset Wi-Fi Network

7) Clearing cache and settings in Safari & Chrome

Thanks

VP

I’m horribly disappointed with my iPhone 14 pro. Started off with the useless move to iOS app that didn’t migrate most of my messages and photos. Then the iMessage and Wi-Fi issues that everyone else is reporting. I trusted that the iOS updates would fix it, but they have not addressed any of it. I’ve followed all the fixes to no avail. I would have returned this brick of uselessness within the 14 days but I was told that the iOS fixes would be forthcoming to address these issues. Still nothing. I’m just waiting for the class action suit to remedy some of this. I might just sell it and go back to a Samsung Galaxy. My super old S7 works perfectly on the same Wi-Fi network that my 14 pro refuses to work on. $1200 not well spent.

So to go a little more in depth on my issues with intermittent Wi-Fi…

imessage will intermittently work, but mostly fails and I have to send a text messages. I tried turning it on and off and made sure the number is turned on for iMessage. Still no fix.

websites load slowly or hang up halfway while on Wi-Fi. If I turn off Wi-Fi and use 5G, no problem. The network is fine. Other devices load perfectly fine on the same network. If I reset the network settings, it works fine for a minute or two, then back to the same issues. Forgetting the network and rejoining does nothing to fix it. I’m not going to erase my phone and start over. I moved from Android and it was a pain in the *** to begin with. This seems to be a software issue. It’s been about 3 months. Apple should have fixed this by now. Anyone want to buy a 14 Pro 256gb purple with otter box case?

I don't use VPN on my phone. I usually see issues when browsing the Internet\apps. Either the app will hang or state there is network connectivity issues, or the phone will pop-up a dialog about switching to cellular or keep trying Wi-Fi. I then disable Wi-fi and reenable it via the control center and connectivity returns to normal. Happens about 2 times a day. It's definitely something I can live with, more annoying than anything. I would be happy to buy a new Access Point, but one I have is 1-year old and was not cheap as it supports 6Ghz and Link Aggregation. I may buy a cheap 5Ghz access point to see if I can reproduce the issue. I also have an iPhone 8 that I will setup today to do a continuous network test, just to be 100% sure for my situation it's an iPhone 14 Pro issue and not iOS 16 or network issue.

Thanks for that information. There is no point in having any antivirus or “cleaning” app on an iOS device. All it does (as you discovered) is slow down the phone and cause other problems. iOS devices are the most secure computers out there, and as long as you keep it updated your phone will be safe from malware.

Plus the fact that an antivirus is useless, because iOS won’t let it have access to any content that it might “want” to check; iOS prevents the antivirus from doing anything the same way iOS prevents apps from compromising your phone.

The same is true for apps the purport to “clean” your phone or your memory. iOS devices are self-cleaning, just like your oven. Any such apps merely get in the way of iOS doing its cleaning function.

Me too! I can connect to my router, and the ‘funnel bars’ continue to show a good signal but my internet connection keeps dropping. It’s not my internet provider (I wasted a lot of time rebooting the router) as my iPad and MacBook continue to work fine. It’s just the phone. Switching WiFi off then back on restores the internet connection for a short while but then it stops working again.

I’m running iOS 16.2

I’ve tried restoring the network settings and after 24 hours Wi-Fi at last seems ok. I will update this thread to report on how long this fix lasts.

Regarding the iPhone 14 Pro Max dropping internet access, I am at least glad to see I am not alone. I have Spectrum internet at about 325MBS and an Eero mesh Wi-Fi system. I get a strong signal throughout the house. My Sony 77" OLED runs perfectly, my wife's Samsung Galaxy runs perfectly. my desktop computer runs perfectly, all while my iPhone 14 Pro Max intermittently loses internet connection a few times every evening. If I turn off the Wi-Fi "switch" in the phone's settings and then turn it back on again, it reconnects and runs perfectly for what appears to be a random period. Two nights ago, I took multiple screenshots and photos during the same minute time frame showing my IPhone stating "No Internet Connection" while my TV ran perfectly and my wife's Galaxy connected to a website. As a result of such evidence, I was given an Iphone 14 XR as a loaner while mine is being sent to Apple engineering for analysis. The IPhone XR loaner seemed to work perfectly at first, and I was becoming sure it was just my Iphone 14 Pro Max, but then the XR loaner also dropped internet after about three to four hours (other devices remained connected). I am beginning to think it is a software interface problem. I have not had this problem on a Wi-Fi network at work or at the Apple store, but, then again, I am only either rarely and/or briefly on those networks, so that really doesn't seem to prove conclusively that it is the Spectrum/Eero mesh combo, since I am on the home network for four to six hours most evenings. IOS 16.2 is on the iPhone 14 ProMax and the loaner XR. My previous iPhone 13 Pro Max had no issues.

I can’t get my iPhone 14 Pro to connect to my broadband network at home, it drops constantly. It works fine at work and at my parents home, connects immediately I walk in, but for some reason I can’t get a stable connection at home. We have Nord VPN but its only connected when its needed and has never caused any issues in the past and I’ve updated the IOS Software to the latest version. I’ve reset my router and tried everything else but still nothing.

Try deleting the Nord VPN profile and app, and see if that fixes the problem at home. Keep in mind that any time you move to a new phone or update an existing phone you may have to delete the VPN and reinstall it, because the phone’s settings have changed, and the VPN only configures to the phone’s settings when you first set it up.

So delete the VPN completed. If that fixes it, reinstall the VPN.
