It is a scam attempting to get you to respond and log into a website that appears to be Apple but is not. If you respond they can then use your password to unlock your phone. If you responded, change your password: Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

It’s a SCAM

It means that a criminal has the phone and is attempting to “crack into it” with information phished from the owner. (They obtained the phone number from the stolen SIM before it was deactivated by your carrier)

Do NOT follow any links it might contain.

Do NOT reply to it.

And ABSOLUTELY do NOT provide ANY personal info or AppleID info to these criminals.

Apple will not contact you.

The ONLY legitimate contact you SHOULD receive is via the means YOU provided on the screen when you set “lost mode” nearly a year ago.

Spoofing the return address on an e-mail is not much more difficult than placing a different return address on an envelope.

Tracing the sending location is not practical and is not part of the FindMy capability.

It’s also irrelevant; the phone is GONE.

You might take some satisfaction in knowing that the Activation Lock MUST be working - making the phone unusable - or else the theives would not bother contacting you.
