iPhone 14 Pro - Wireless Charging not working with slim standard case and standard QI charger

iPhone 14 Pro - Wireless Charging not working with slim standard case and standard QI charger!

I suspect it is a design flaw that iPhone 14 Pro cannot be charged on flat surface chargers (std Qi chargers, cars, furniture etc). I think the charge coil is located next to the large camera bump and that a slim 0.4mm camera case and the camera bump make the gap between charger coil and coil in phone too wide. I hope that this could be resolved with a SW update but I can not risk being stuck with the phone for 2 years on contract so I will return it for now. Note that my 4 wireless chargers worked fine with my iPhone 12 Pro.

It is true that the charging coil in the newest phones (actually since iPhone 12) with MagSafe, repositioned the charging coil. And it's true it made some older chargers not work well with the newer design. Apple can't release a software update and the coil isn't going to be repositioned. So what do you do? Exactly what I did and move over to MagSafe charging or don't use older Qi chargers and instead plug your phone into charge. I made the switch a couple years ago now and every charger I use is MagSafe. MagSafe is amazingly simple and flawless in its ability to align the charger with the coil in the back of the phone.

Mine charges fine in my car on the OEM wireless charger as well as on the Belkin wireless Qi charger that I have in my nightstand. I was concerned that the camera bump would be a problem but it hasn’t been for me. Also have my phone in an Otterbox Symmetry case. No clue why some are having issues but it doesn’t seem to be a universal problem.

Well,

You can probably tell car and furniture manufacturers that they now need to provide mag safe pucks instead of standardized flat surface wireless charging. Magsafe is more like a chargeport, it sticks to the phone and is great for that purpose. Apple is leading the industry in a bad way

1 st to remove 3.5mm headphone

1 st to remove physical SIM

1 st to remove standard flat surface wireless charging

(I returned my iPhone 14)

I'm not going to tell car manufacturers anything, tbh. My charging mat in my car is not deep enough to charge my 14 Pro Max. It wasn't deep enough to charge my 13 Pro Max or 12 Pro Max either. That's on Mercedes for not building a mat large enough to accommodate a larger iPhone. That's not on Apple at all.

Personally, I wouldn't go back from MagSafe. It just works and it works far better than any standard Qi charger I've ever owned. So other than an initial investment in new ways to charge my iPhone, it has made life simpler overall. And as far as I'm concerned, it's a good thing.

Good luck with whatever you chose after returning your 14.

when I bought my first 13, the QI charger barely worked……… I called Apple and they said it was corrected in their new iOS and it was…… Obviously the charging is controlled by the operating system……… However; my old iPhone 8 with a heavy rubber case and two credit cards stuck behind works better than the newer phones…… Figure that one out?

Wouldn’t you think with all the problems on the 13 they would’ve got it right on the 14??

I’ve never had an issue with charging via MagSafe regardless of the iOS version installed, and that includes new out of the box.

It could be that various incompatibilities with various third-party Qi chargers get fixed, but as all of mine are MagSafe I wouldn’t know.

I used to have several regular Qi chargers but as soon as Apple introduced MagSafe I switched and have been thrilled for years now.

I am sorry, you are still missing the point .

On a flat surface you are free to move the phone around however you like but it still does not work with a slim case and iphone 14 Pro, at least not reliably. To move the phone around was always the case with wireless charging.

If the new iPhones does not work reliably with standard wireless charging it is not supported - Period.

In iPhone 8, X, 11, and 12 it is working.

This is not rocket science.

Understood. But Apple went on a big push to get everyone to go wireless charging. Picked a standard, and then basically abandoned it yet another proprietary version. Desks and tables with built in chargers. Home furniture and other items as well. We’re just getting popular and don’t work with the flagship model phone

about the time the car

manufacturer’s come up with a good solution that is compatible with all versions of a phone, Apple will probably change it again

and really sucks as my new 2023 Outback had a very very good solution and placement for the phone

I have this same issue. Recently got a new car with a wireless charging plate in it and my 14Pro Max won’t charge on it properly. Seriously inconvenient design flaw. I have a mag safe case to try help it and still does not make a connection. This is a really bad stuff up from Apple, while I love the phone, it’s disappointing that when the design was finalised it seems like no one thought to test on wireless charge plates that are flat!

I’ve tried a variety of different cases now, even no case (which was worse).
