Apple Watch Series 5 - failed backlight

Hello all

I have owned an Apple Watch Series 5 since May 2020. Last month, the display went totally black and the Apple Store diagnosed a failed backlight, quoting a repair charge of £309(!). I have worn the watch fairly regularly in the time that I have owned it but not every day, as I have a normal analogue watch that I like to wear sometimes. It is in good condition, and the person at the Genius Bar highlighted that it seemed to have been well looked after.

I am frankly a bit surprised and disappointed that it has gone wrong after this length of time. I wanted to see if anyone else had had this problem and/or whether it is normal for an Apple Watch to go wrong like this after two years and four months? Any feedback welcome - I'm just trying to establish whether this the normal lifespan for an Apple Watch or whether I have been unlucky.

Many thanks
