iPhone 14 Pro Max Freezing

I bought a new iPhone and am having a problem I never had before on my previous one: when I switch to an open app, that app will display on the screen fine but it is completely frozen: no scroll, no tap, no response at all.

i have to close the app manually and reopen. But this means that data previously open in that app is lost.

This happens several times a day.

I don’t know if this is an iOS 16 bug, or a problem with my new iPhone 14 pro max?

Dude, why are you stating the obvious??? Iphone 12 Pro freezing again and again after 16.1.1 update

Everyone on the forum is facing constant freeze issue after 16.1.1.

Please note below items cannot be done due to iphone freezing after. 2,3,5 mins:

  1. Cannot backup phone
  2. Cannot update to 16.1.2
  3. Hard reset doesn't solve issue as freezing happens every other min or so.
  4. Before suggesting keep in mind that this event happening right after 16.1.1 update so it is a update issue and not hardware issue.

Having same issue as well. It seems it’s affecting both iPhone 14 Pro and the Pro Max. I’ve tried troubleshooting with multiple iPhones from iPhone 12 and up. Only issue is affecting the iPhone 14 Pro devices. Under a benchmark test the cpu is having issues on both devices. Apple is surely aware of the issue and needs to quickly find a solution because many folks are having this issue. One of my clients literally went back to there iPhone 12 because it’s quicker and more reliable. All iPhones were tested with iOS 16.3.

having work in technical support for 15 years, I can tell you that many devices out of the box will have issues within a short amount of time if they are defective. Perhaps your device is defective if it was having those issues straight out of the box.

The issue is either going to be software or hardware, and when devices have problems relatively soon after purchase that usually points to a hardware problems

TLDR; try turning off haptics in iOS system settings. Solved the freezing issues for me.

Long version:

I am experiencing this freezing too. Often immediately when unlocking the screen of my iPhone 14 Pro Max or when using the app switcher.

Today I had the freezing again while playing Brawlstars. After only a few seconds in the game the screen froze but the sound continued to play. Sometimes after 10-15 secs the screen unfreezes and I could play again for 20 secs before it froze again. Needless to say it was unplayable.

After a few minutes of trying to figure out whats going on I noticed that the freezing always occured when pressing the fire button or when getting hit. This causes the haptics engine of the iPhone to fire impulses. The haptics engine also fires impulses when switching apps or unlocking the phone.

So I went into the system settings and turned off the system haptics and the two other haptic settings and after doing so the freezes were gone. Hope it helps.

I am the CTO for a company with over a thousand employees. It's not a great day when the CEO tosses his iPhone 14 Pro Max on my desk and says he's finished with Apple. Our infrastructure is Apple friendly and we've invested a lot of capital into the 14s. I've updated, tweaked settings, factory reset, and everything I could think of. There seems to be no fix for the freezing issues. Often when you're on a call you can't switch over or get access to the call settings. The 14 Pro Max seems not to want to pick up Airpods and the amount of dropped calls is frustrating. Our fleet of 13's are working fine so it's certainly something with the 14s. Hope is not a strategy but I'm pulling for 16.3.

My iPhone 14 pro max works fine except for when I am using google maps, Apple Maps or Waze. Any GPS enabled app seems to freeze up while it is being used. We just went on a very long trip and I cannot tell you how many times we missed exits on account of the gps enabled maps app freezing up for seconds to minutes at a time. I need this fixed asap because I also use this phone and the gps enabled apps for my job and I cannot have them freezing up like this.
