Poor Battery Life after upgrading to Monterey

My MBP is 3 years old and just went out of warranty in September. Prior to the upgrade I was getting 3 to 4 hours of battery life typically. I don't do anything to conserve battery because I don't travel with the laptop are rarely use it on battery.

After the upgrade I am getting around one hour of battery life. One of the suggestions I found for this is resetting the PRAM and NVRAM. The laptop restarts when you press any key. So if I completely shut it down and hold down the "Command, P, and R" keys while at the same time it just boots to the sign in page. I've tried various ways. I know I've reset the PRAM on this machine before as a solution for the battery not charging. I don't remember having this problem with the keys all being live.

So I'm looking for suggestions on how to reset the PRAM and NVRAM and/or additional ideas on fixing the battery life issue. Any assistance would be appreciated. (By the way I upgraded from Catalina. I never ran Big Sur on this device).

1 hour is certainly unacceptable for battery life. Go to System Preferences => Battery; what is shown for Usage over the past 24 hours?

Suggest also that you download Coconut Battery, tell us what it shows about the state of your battery? I believe this is a free download.

Some of this (note that Coconut Battery provides more information about the battery capacity compared to it original capacity -- this may provide clues) can also be read from About This Mac, System Report, Power look for something that looks like this:

 Charge Information:

  Fully Charged: Yes

  Charging: No

  Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 8274

  State of Charge (%): 100

  Health Information:

  Cycle Count: 12

  Condition: Normal
