My apple car play will open apps but it’s blank

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. Does this happen with any Apple apps that you open or is it only with third-party apps like the one's you mentioned? Are you running the latest iOS version on your iPhone? If not, you'll want to make sure that it's updated.

Same here with Google map in CarPlay. The issue started immediately after downloading iOS 16. It became intermittent after downloading iOS 16.0.02. Whenever the app blanks out, I have to physically open it in the phone and leave it on the screen to get it to show in CarPlay.

Suggestions?

I'm having the same issue since updating my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 16.1.1. About 1/3 of the time Google Maps shows a black screen, 1/3 of the time it shows the map, but doesn't move, and 1/3 of the time it works fine. If I open the Google Maps app on the phone it seems to work fine, but kind of defeats the purpose of CarPlay. It's time for Apple to own up to the glitch and get it fixed.

I've also seem people post about Waze doing the same thing as well as apps such as Spotify. Sounds like Apple is trying to force everyone to use their apps as opposed to the third party apps.

I have this exact problem also, i have plugged in different phones and they are fine, i have update my phone to IOS 16 and nothing changes it. I have checked all settings on my car and in my settings. How can this be resolved?

I am dealing with this in all of my nav apps (google and apple). It'll be black or wont search until I unlock the phone and open the actual app. This defeats the purpose of carplay and I cannot open my phone to the app all the time because of insurance/safe driver tracking.

Interesting. My Apple apps seems to be working fine...Apple Music, Apple Podcast, Apple Maps. It's only third party apps that I'm having issues with.

I thought it was better after restarting my phone, but the problem came back and I can't seem to find a consistent thing that makes it happen or not happen.

Still an issue with latest iOS and google maps versions as on nov 24, 2022. I have had this issue for the last few iOS versions or last few months

I would agree with you but it seems the issue is iOS to CarPlay integration as a whole. Apple Maps and Podcasts won’t even work for me when I cannot access other apps
