My old email address was @btinternet.com I have now got an iCloud.com email address. The problem is I would like to change my Apple ID from my btinternet email address to my new iCloud email address. Apple will not let me do this and I don’t understand why. Please help.

You can only use the iCloud address that is associated with your current Apple ID. If you created a new iCloud address, you created a new Apple ID. You can't merge Apple IDs.
You are welcome. Is the iCloud address you are trying to use an iCloud email address from when the btinternet.com email address was your Apple ID? If not, the iCloud address is a new Apple ID.

my current ID is btinternet.com. I got rid of my btinternet.com email address the other day and changed my email address to iCloud.com. I then tried to change my Apple ID to my new email iCloud.com. It wouldn’t let me.
