I gave lots of group photos from the internet that I want to crop into individual head shots but in the most recent release of Mac OS. 12.6 that function is gone. I don't want these in my photo file. Is there a work around ?

Hold the option key for "Save As…"

Try File (in the menu) > Export
You could use "Export…". Then you wouldn't have to hold the option key.
You could use "Duplicate" to make a duplicate of the file since that is really what you want instead of saving it as something else, like a banana perhaps.
well that works an makes an extra step for every one
I did try that. I had a photo with 4 people in it and I cropped and exported it and then had to go find another copy of the pic to get the other three people.
