Blurry pics on iPhone 14 Pro Max (iOS 16.0.2)

I just got the new phone few days ago (for the better cameras compared to 13 Pro Max), and surprisingly the pics quality is blurry!

If I use the main camera when choosing 'vivid' mode, after the pic is taken , it takes 3-4 more seconds to do the post-processing! You can see the pic changing contrast, light etc in 2-3 times during that time interval of 3-4 seconds. The result at the end is not as good as I had with 13 Pro Max - which did the processing WHILE taking the pics and not after...

If I chose the 'standard' mode, the pics are better than in vivid mode, but still if you zoom just a little the details get lost! If you dont zoom, some areas of the pic seem clear and others blurry!

I did everything I could do from my side, cleaned the lens, updated to 16.0.2 as I mention in the title and I dont know what else to do :/

Any help on this please?

I am having the same issue! I’m upset I spent money to get a better camera and the image result is horrible. The iPhone 12 Pro camera captures much better images. Comparing the photos taken with an iPhone 12 Pro, OnePlus 8 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro, the image of the iPhone 14 Pro is horribly blurry, grainy and unusable compared to the other phone images. The iPhone 14 Pro camera appears like it was technology from 5-8 years ago. Apple please fix this camera!

Oh please update us on any new "word" of any possible fix. By the way I did notice... it's just happening on when you point the camera to get a selfie photo... not as bad the other way...

I also experimented... I'm able to get a clear focused photo of a selfie if I turn my cell backwards but of course very difficult in aiming correctly because you can't see yourself. You're totally guessing... OMG they HAVE to fix this

But... I DID notice focusing issues one time trying to focus on something the other day too though and thank you again

Hey, so basically I tried to reset my iPhone's all settings ( General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings ) . After the reset, I think the quality has improved. Maybe it has or maybe it's just the placebo effect. Also I've noticed that the iPhone 13 series has a warmish tone as compared to iPhone 14 pro and pro max. Today I went to my nearest authorised reseller and did a couple of tests, It was the same, the picture quality and sharpness was the same. But what I really think is resetting helped it get better. Nevertheless I'm gonna live with this thing and I'll just try to get it off my mind because there is nothing I can do about it. I asked the apple representative there and he said there is absolutely no chance that the camera itself has a defect.

Thanks for sharing. Did you reset and upgrade again to 16.1 or stayed at 16.0?

Yes indeed, I have seen the same problem in 2-3 other 14 Pro Max ones exposed at Apple store (during my appointment at Genius bar).

Apple store guys don't consider this a problem for swapping the phone. I had my phone checked as well at Genius bar and online from Apple support. What they really check is if 'stuff' works or not and not the performance of it! They did the test in front me and that's what they kind of admitted from our talk.

I have to report...

I figured out what was the dang culprit with the out of focus on the selfies!!! Check your darn screen protector!!! CHECK YOUR SCREEN PROTECTOR!!! As soooon as I removed the screen protector that fixed it....the out of focus mess for the selfies.... & then I got the liquid screen protector instead due to the weird new way the top black box on the top of the front of the cell is located! The regular screen protector was covering a lot of it and just was the reason why this was happening. I truly hope I can help others with this issue wooo so happy I got it back for the selfies yay

WOOOOO thank you.... & I'm screamin' happy I figured THAT one out yayyyyyyyyyyyy....

However... about the main camera.... There was one time when I did try the main camera through a window though and tried to aim on something for a photo and the object in question WAS blurry yup.... but maybe taking that same picture outside on the same type of object was better? Maybe something to do with the through the window it won't focus on certain things... strange...

Albeit... I am extremely happy to have fixed the selfie issue...

I hope Apple fixes annnyyyy ongoing regular camera issues too.. for the price we paid whew... with my trade-in it was great though...

Same issues!! This is my third iphone 14 pro. It was exchanged by apple two times already due to blurry videos and shaking USING APPLE’S own camera app (not third party apps. Extremely dissatisfied, since my third iphone that I just got two days ago is having the same issues. I followed all the recommendations the genius bar made (remove 3dr party lens cover/protector), installed as new iphone (don t restore), nothing works. I just tested my friend’s 14 pro max and same issue, my wife’s iphone is doing exactly the same, blurred videos. I think it s time for Apple to acknowledge that some phones have HW camera issues

Hi...

Yes... I had this issue with selfies... but not pic's taken the regular way.... I wanted to let you know... it WAS the screen protector doing this for me but on a selfie! UGH... It's because where the black portion is above on the cell... that's where the camera is I believe... and so any screen protector will hinder that! So I tried to take that darn screen protector off and voila... it worked great.

Take your screen protector completely off and try it again... SOOO happy I figured this out for me...

Also I am using the liquid screen protector which does come with a warranty Was only about $40 bucks and worth it. You cannot tell it's there!

Hope this helps

Basically, the macro gives grainy pics and its a build in that can’t be switched off. ISO is increased which caused the grainy pics. The shutter speed is also slower, so for normal group photo or outdoor landscape pics it works fine. slightly upclose pics and it will be blurry if u don’t focus well cos it goes macro. Its like a phone that’s using reading glasses.

An upgrade that is basically a downgrade. I swopped back to my iphone 12 Pro, not changing phone again till they refine this. Seems the same applies for Iphone 13 Pro too.
