iPhone 14 and iOS 16 issues with Phonak hearing aids

I have updated to an iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 16. My Phonak hearing aids do not have any issue pairing over Bluetooth but audio is not available in any ap including calls. The MyPhonak ap does connect with them over Bluetooth. I have downloaded apps and it doesn’t change. I have turned off networking and reset and it still doesn’t work. All of this works fine on my iPhone 11 with iOS 15.x and I’ve never had this problem.

Actually I was able to work around this weirdness by forgetting the hearing aids from both iPhone bluetooth settings and the Phonak app. I then turned the hearing aids off and back on and paired them via the iPhone Bluetooth settings. I was then able to stream audio and phone calls. I also now have the R-Phonak hearing aid (the main one used to connect via bluetooth) and if I tap it I get the advanced options that allow me to specify device type.

I then tried to pair in the phonak app so that I can control the audio profile and volume from the app. I turned the hearing aids off and back on again. I then selected to pair them both in the phonak app. The app failed on the left one but succeeded with the right one. I tapped to try again and neither were found in the phonak app. I turned them off and back on again and tried pairing in the app again and now all is good.

I think the thing that did it for me was to unpair/forget the hearing aids in iPhone Bluetooth and in the Phonak app and then pair them first via iPhone Bluetooth, then in the Phonak app.

I also think the important thing is to get the main "R-Phonak hearing aid" connected and that did not show up before. The LE_L-Phonak and LE_R-Phonak now show as well as the "R-Phonak hearing aid". I remember my audiologist telling me that one of the two has to be set as the main hearing aid for bluetooth and I guess mine shows up as "R-Phonak hearing aid".

I hope this helps!

I am a 22 year old who relies heavily on my phonak audeo m hearing aids. I just bought an iPhone 14 last night and now I can’t use my hearing aids for audio (music, Netflix, etc)

if this can’t be resolved I plan on returning my iPhone 14. This just is terrible. I can’t hear anything without connecting it to my hearing aids. Apple please fix this.

I am having the same issue. I bought new phone.

I have one hearing aid, I am unable to use two.

I have paired the aid okay. I set my phone to use Bluetooth, I connect in Phonak app.

When I make or get an incoming call I can not hear the call. Bluetooth not working, ughhhh. This app definitely not working the same as my previous Apple phone. So frustrating as I depend on this. When I take my hearing aid off for bed I have to reconnect in the morning. I never had to do that in the past. Not sure who is best to report this to.

Even with only one Phonak hearing aid you should see the hearing aid under Settings-Bluetooth on your iPhone after you get it paired. If your having difficulty, which I had some difficulty with my aids, use this link to talk directly with an Apple Accessibility Support Specialist, they helped me before: How to contact Apple for accessibility support - Apple Support

They respond pretty quickly.

Yes,

My hearing aids have no issue pairing with bluetooth and work perfectly in the MyPhonak Ap. I have removed the MyPhonak Ap, The Music AP and the Podcast Ap and reinstalled. I have reconnected to bluetooth at least 10 times with no issues. The issue is that although all other Bluetooth devices are available in the Music, Podcast and Phone ap, my hearing aids are not. This is not user error or any issue with the MyPhonak Ap or my hearing aids. It is an issue with iOS 16.02 and I would be shocked if I'm the only one experiencing it. I have had them connected to my previous phone with iOS 15.X with no issue. I went back and tested it with that phone and there are still no issues. The issue is with iOS 16.02 and should be fixed by Apple for customers with hearing disabilities.
