Multitasking control

I want to turn off dual screen on my iPad. Everything says to go to settings>home and dock and>multitasking. Multitasking does not show up there however. Where is it?

The key to your dilemma is the very trigger-button that you are attempting to avoid.

As described, the tab that you describe indicates that you have an active slide-over view of an App. Tap the tab to open the side-over view - then tap the multitasking trigger (the three dots) that you’ll find at the top of the slide-over view. You will now see three buttons…

  • Tap the left of the three buttons to convert the current slide-over view to full screen (in so doing, eliminating the tab of which you complain.
  • Tap the middle button to convert the current view to split-screen.
  • Tap the right button to keep the current slide-over view.

As already described, you cannot disable multitasking or its UI controls - but you can learn to use them productively and correctly.

If your iPad is, currently running any version of iPadOS 15, Multiscreen/multitasking windows are and integral part of the iPadOS UI, now.

Mulltitasking is now, controlled by tapping on the 3 dots at the top center of your iPad’s screen.

Tap on the 3 dots and choose the 1st single screen icon to have your iPad function in single screen mode.

There is, currently, no way to disable this multiple app window multitasking feature.

You cannot disable iPadOS multitasking or its controls. As I have attempted to outline, the only route to resolving your difficulties are to understand and use the User Interface as it is designed to operate.

If the materials provided do not assist with mitigation of your difficulties, there is no alternative technical or procedural method to resolve your problem.

Apple do invite submission of constructive comment and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

While you are unlikely to receive a personal response, this would be the most appropriate and effective channel through which to request enhancement or change.

If you do not tap anywhere near where those three top center dots are, then your iPad should not have any issue and multitasking windows will never be invoked.

Why is this such an issue with some users?

I can tap anywhere along the top of screen, to do different functions up there, without ever touching those three dots to invoke the iPadOS multitasking window features.

Seems pretty easy to avoid tapping those and still touch other things in that area.

There are NOT a lot of things that get put smack dab in the very top upper center of the iPad’s screen.

if using a Web browser, you can tap any place in the address bar to do edits or paste a new Website location.

You don't have to tap the very center of the Web address bar.

Same goes for tapping the top edge of of the screen for doing a quick return scrolling back to the top of a page.

You can still do that by tapping somewhere else along the iPad’s top screen edge , on either side of the three dots..
