Installing macOS Monterey

Hi,

So recently I've been deleting files to free up some space on my laptop and noticed the "Install macOS Monterey" application was taking up 12.13 GB (I only have 17 GB free at the moment)

My question is: If I run the app and upgrade my OS (currently running Big Sur), will it take up 12 out of the 17 GB? or does having the "install OS" app already "saving" that space for the future OS install?

You need 20GB free before you can install MacOS Monterey.
