I'm on OS X Yosemite 10.10.15, need to go to 10.11 but when I click on the el Capitan link on the support page https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683, it download OSX and I'm still on Yosemite after it instals. why is that?!
And more importantly where can I actually get 10.11 el capitan

Hello!
After downloading the DMG file from How to download macOS - Apple Support, you need to open that downloaded file and install the "Install OS X El Capitan" app. After the app is installed, you can use the installer app to upgrade your Mac to OS X El Capitan.
