iMac suddenly dies

What could have caused my iMac to become dark and unresponsive? Tried to restart and the unit made no sounds, completely dead, like a failed power supply

Check to make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into the back of the iMac.

Test the iMac plugged into a different wall outlet or surge protector if are using use one.

Try unplugging the power cord from the back of the iMac for about 15 seconds. Plug it back in and try the Power button again.

If the above works and you're able to power up, even briefly before shutting down again, that's a sign of a failed/failint power supply. I've been thru hat with a 2015 iMac.

Depending on the age of the iMac it may be more expensive to fix it than it's worth.
