AOL app password GENERATOR no longer working - 10-9-2022 and earlier

I know I'm not alone here based on previous Community Q & A. As others have discovered the use of an AOL App password (designed for "better security") is NO LONGER WORKING AS OF Oct 9, 2022. Various AOL accounts (which include the original @verizon.net email dumped by Verizon a few years ago) will fail to obtain an "App Password" - needed typically when setting up or resetting up an AOL account that has been placed under this security requirement. As of 10-9-2022 the AOL technicians I've spoken to (I'm using the word "technician" very loosely here) ARE NOW admitting that it is a known problem that they "are working on". Foolishly I asked for an ETA on the password FIX and was told "just keep checking back every once in a while!" From what I see when I Google the problem or look at the Apple Community - the "FIX" is already a few months in the works. Advice? Perhaps go to your AOL account and ATTEMPT to turn off "App-Specific passwords to be entered instead of your normal password". Rest in Next.

Hey everyone after months of dealing with this I finally was able to get the password. I was able to access the password generator through the Microsoft edge browser. Knock on wood but it literally works every time I use it with Edge. To be clear I’m using the Edge app from the IOS App Store on an iPhone 14 pro max. Don’t know if any of those details matter but I want to make sure you have all the info on the table. Good luck!

For the past 5 weeks, I have been having the same problem trying to generate the app password for an old verizon.net email account. It is awful customer relations as it seems AOL could easily remove the requirement of the app password until they fix the functionality. They appear to have no interest in doing so.

Prior to abandoning AOL and the verizon.net email address, does anyone have a workaround?

Thanks.

Steve, sorry to hear that you were unable to "see any option to forward [email]". But before submitting to "being cursed" I wanted to make certain you landed on the CORRECT General Settings page. Note that with either Firefox or Edge browsers, I am able to find the proper settings page.

The page is called General Settings and has the following sub-headings:

*Today on AOL

*Sender Name Display

*Reading

*New Mail

*Forward to [<----- this is what you want]

*Inbox Style

*Mail Away Message

Finally be sure to click on "Save Settings" at very bottom of page

I use a desktop PC (Lenovo) running Win 10. Last, although it shouldn't matter try this URL: https://mail.aol.com/webmail-std/en-us/suite#

I worked with a client yesterday and was able to generate one app password and then it stopped working when I tried to create another app password for a second verizon email account. I have the same issue today with another client. This is a real problem. I hate Verizon and AOL both. I been trying all day today with no luck.

Yes Steve, there is a Santa Claus! I too found that I was able to generate passwords for about a day and a half and then it halted with usual failure message (both Firefox &r Edge worked). It certainly begs the question as to what or who controls the on/off valve that results in short-lived success.

May our mutual paths never be forced to cross with AOL again!

Interestingly I have no issue accessing my AOL accounts via my Ipad or my android phone except I cannot add new ones. With my Windows Laptop the need for an app password seems to work sometimes and then stops working. I guess AOL is trying to get everyone to use the AOL app or website to access emails which is not as handy as having them on the system mail app of the device you are using. Profit rules again when will the world ever learn

Does anyone have any recent updates? I just got a new MacBook Pro and without knowing this issue, uninstalled my Microsoft Outlook and tried to reinstall it on the new machine - everything worked, of course, except for transferring the AOL account over. I've tried all the suggestions listed here with no luck. So frustrating :/
