Can I stop Quicktime Player from automatically quitting?

I use Quicktime Player several times a day for screen recording and what's really annoying is the create new/open existing document window that pops up when I launch it.

You can't close that window because the app will automatically quit, so you have to do this dance where you go to the File Menu > New Screen Recording, then press record, then race to hit Cancel the box as fast as you can before the recording starts.

And when you're done recording and save the video, the app quits again! Then you have to launch the app and go through it all over again! It would be nice if there was a key command that I could press that instantly launches a Screen Recording.

Let's try a different method:

Hold down the shift and command keys and tap the number 5 key.

Study the recording options found at the bottom of this new window.

You can save the recordings to an external drive to save space on your internal and set the delay time at 5 of ten seconds. Escape key switches back to the previously used app.
