I connect my Macbook Air M2 with a Samsung monitor as a second screen, but whenever my Macbook sleeps and wakes up, my monitor is disconnected. I have to re-plug my hub into my laptop to reconnect it. What can I do to solve this?

You are misunderstanding the issue.

  1. Lock screen.
  2. laptop monitor goes dark along with external monitor.
  3. external monitor no longer has usbc video signal and goes into standby. (This is normal)
  4. touch the laptop's keys or touchpad and the laptop screen comes on - however, the external monitor does not re-establish the connection and stays dark.
  5. one has to either unplug the monitor and plug it back in. OR, power cycle the external monitor to get it to reconnect to the M2 macbook air.

This is a problem with the M2 Macbook Air that doesn't happen with the M1 MB Pro nor i9 MB Pro.

Hi there feng226,

If your external display is blank, these steps from If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac will help isolate what's the cause of this behavior:

Before you begin
Make sure that your Mac is running the latest version of macOS.

If your display is blank or not detected
Try these steps if you don't see an image on your display.
Check your cable or adapter
Disconnect the cable from your external display from your Mac, then reconnect it. If the cable from your external display doesn't connect to the ports on your Mac, you can use a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter. If you're using a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter to connect a display, the adapter must be compliant with DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt / USB 4.

If this happens with multiple cables and adapters, please provide more details on how exactly the external display is connected to your MacBook Air so we can help further.

Cheers!

I'm still working with Apple "Support" on this and trying to get this escalated to Apple Engineering to fix. It's a long process of explaining the issue over and over again to first line support.

I've had six macbooks and none of them ever did this. Most recent models: two 2021 16" Macbook Pro M1, two 2019 16" Macbook Pro i9. Only the Macbook Air M2 has this issue.

I would suggest opening up a support ticket through Apple. With enough of us bringing this data to front, perhaps Apple will be willing to fix this.
