Title page with still photo -- I want to move the photo

Hi, I start my movie with a simple title page that has a photo and text below it. I want to do things

1) Move the photo to the left side of screen

2) Move the text so it fits nicely below the photo

I am reading there should be two overlaid boxes above my screen but they are not there. So I can't edit where the photo is positioned -- it just defaults to the center of the whole screen nor can i figure out how to line up the text then below the photo.

Any thoughts here?

To make the overlay icon (two overlapping squares) appear in the tool bar at the upper right of your screen, you need to place a photo in the upper timeline above another photo or background in the main timeline, and then select the upper photo. (In the screen shot below I placed the photo above a black background and selected it.) When the overlay icon appears, click on it and that will reveal a selection box below and to the left of the icon. Choose Picture in Picture in the selection box. Position your upper timeline photo where you want and then click on the blue reset button to the right or the screen to apply the settings. Then add your title.

Another way would be to select Split Screen from the overlay selection box. Then place your title under the picture.

Ahh, that worked. I just placed a black screen picture and then can tap on the double square.

One more question if I can ask: the title screen I am using now places as I want everything to the right bottom. But I want to adjust the text box and move up a little higher. I seemed to click everywhere and can't move the text box of the title text slightly up so it's more in the black space on my screen. Is there a way to do that? All the title templates seem restrictive and don't let me move the text box.

thanks so much for your help

Unfortunately, your observation is correct. iMovie titles cannot be moved around the screen. You would need to find a title that best fits the position that you want on the screen.

You can make titles in the Keynote app on your Mac that you can import into iMovie. Keynote titles are much more flexable.

When I need to position a title in a place that iMovie won’t accommodate I make it on a transparancy that I create in the Preview app on the Mac.
