I cannot voice dictate and I get a mic symbol with an x on it when I press the mic icon on imessage. Cannot voice dictate in other places such as in notes or to do a browser search. My mic does work because people can hear me on a call.

So I downloaded the new iOS and I can use voice now. But I still see the little X in the record icon and I’m just curious why?
Cleared Siri and dictation history. Changes the language to UK and relearned Siri. Changed back to US and relearned Siri.
Everything works now, but mic icon still has x.
Upgraded to iOS 16.1 today and it fixed the issue!
Okay, I turned my phone off for 3 minutes and it’s working. 🥰
Found a work around. In settings, change your keyboard to English (UK) or English (Canada). The issue seems to be with the English (US) keyboard!
i deleted my VPN settings and it fixed it? Bizarre but 100% worked. Voice to txt now works
Change both Siri and dictation to another language.
Example: if you’re primary language is Canadian English change it to Australian English
I’ve been having the same problem. My mic is not working with Siri, notes or voice texting. I decided to try switching the keyboard to UK and it’s working! Of course it’s not exactly as I would talk like it called my mom mum but it’s a fix for now. Hope this helps. PS: UK voice texting doesn’t recognize “period” for punctuation.
Adding UK English to my keyboard text is what worked for me
Funny, I had my DND settings on and decided to turn off all scheduled settings for today and guess what? Voice texting in English works! Hope this helps someone.
Turn Bluetooth off wait 30 seconds turn it back on.

You should change the language of siri it should work.
Did you add English UK to your keyboard dictation?
What did work for me as a temporary fix is to put your finger on the microphone button that has the X on it and dictate while you hold your finger on it
