All you do is go into setting turn on full key board access in accessibility shortcuts…. Nothing ppl wrote has worken but I just figured this out and it’s good now

I did the same. Delete siri and reset. I can now text talk but it still shows the microphone x.

I have same problem. X on mic and won’t let me voice to text. Mic works otherwise. Please help.

I also found that switching to the Canadian English works much better than American and British. (Dictation with the British English spells out the word “period” vs. Inserting a period.

The microphone to record a voice text was moved to underneath the iMessage. (See my pic)

One more: Siri is malfunctioning. Responds to Hey Siri, but then says, "one sec... still on it... sorry, something went wrong, please try again". Interestingly, the mic on the Google app works fine and the voice memo app works. Seems to be only related to Siri and voice-to-text apps.

I am having the same issue was curious to see what device you all are on, i am on iphone 12, I wonder if its device specific. I also can not reply to text via apple car, but my apps work. You can also confirm it your mic works correctly when you use audio notes as a test.

Interesting. In my case, it does seem to record voice text when the small ‘microphone X’ icon is present. However, the small ‘microphone X’ icon doesn’t appear right away after tapping the microphone icon—you have to start talking, then the ‘microphone X’ icon appears, then whatever you say after that gets translated from voice to text.

Kind of bizarre setup, you’d expect to tap the microphone and start talking right away straight into talk-to-text, but you have to say random stuff first to get to the recording part.

I’m using the newest iPhone Pro Max so I’d be surprised if it was a lag. Maybe there is a setting we can adjust to begin dictation automatically after microphone icon is tapped and remove the lag.

The different tips and things that I did that I learned here definitely helped meaning that for a literally since I did the last update my mic was not working at all and I live on text messages that I dictate

now, after reading all these and spending an hour and a half playing with my phone, I can now dictate, which is wonderful however, that x just never leaves

Okay but what happens with the next update and the UK English one stops working? I feel like it’s something within the update that messed it up. I added it and it works but I speak other languages (my Spanish one doesn’t work either).
