iPhone built in white noise drains battery while charging. IOS 16.

I use the built in “background sounds” to play white noise while sleeping. I keep my 2 month old iPhone plugged in to the apple charger, so it plays the sounds through its speaker and charges the phone while I am asleep. Since updating the OS, it has stopped charging at night while the app is running. I go to bed with 70% battery and wake up with 30%, even though the phone showed it was charging when I went to sleep.

The battery level and activity graph shows that the phone is plugged in, but the charge level continues to drop while the background app is active.

Im only experiencing this now but this has clearly been a problem before 2020 with previous iPhones and was never fixed.

Does anyone have a resolution to this, other than to stop using the background app?

It sounds as if the phone recognizes that it's plugged in but that the battery is not actually charging. This would suggest a problem with the battery. What version of iOS are you running? What is your battery health? Settings>Battery>Battery Health>Maximum Capacity. Are you using an original Apple cable?

I use Background Sounds regularly with my phone plugged in and don't see this problem.

The Background Sounds feature was only added with iOS 15 in 2021 so, I'm not sure how it could have been a problem before 2020.

Just for a different perspective, I use the background noise every night, all night, roughly 7 hours, but not on the charger. I charge the phone to at least 90% before I turn on the noise, and in the morning it's always got at least 70% charge left.

Third-party apps could be a whole different story.

Just to double-check, I turned on Background sounds when I first posted in this thread at 10:49 am and have been running it since then. My phone is on the charger. It hasn't dropped a percentage point.

I found a thread on here from 2020 where the user was using a white noise app and had the same problem, battery health is at %96 ios 16.0 original cable but cable is three years old.
