audio midi multi output device : airplay disabled greyed out and not working

I have HomePod mini pair set as stereo. I want to combine them with MacBook Air speakers and external speakers. when I create multi output device it doesn't list airplay device. when I add airplay device by clicking plus icon, sound output changes to airplay HomePods and airplay is getting listed in device list sidebar.

so now I check on airplay in my multi output device list. Now when I switch audio output to newly created multi output device, airplay is greyed out and no longer shows in list of available devices in sidebar.

Just want to know if this combination possible ?

Hello akshayparwar,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help get the music playing though all devices like you want via AirPlay.

Let's confirm you're using these steps:

1. In the Audio MIDI Setup app  on your Mac, click the Add button  at the bottom of the sidebar in the Audio Devices window, then choose Create Multi-Output Device.
2. A new multi-output device appears in the sidebar. To rename the device, click it, then enter a new name.
3. Select the new multi-output device, then on the right side of the Audio Devices window, select the Use checkbox of each device you want to use in the multi-output device.
4. To set the master device for the multi-output device, click the Master Device pop-up menu, then choose an output device.

To help isolate what you're seeing, are the external speakers that you're wanting to add also AirPlay compatible? Does the music not play correctly via the HomePods with the way you currently have it configured?

Try restarting all devices to see if that has any impact as well.

We hope this helps to further isolate and resolve the source of the issue.

Cheers!
