How to answer a call when Ipad takes over

IF I receive a call of importance, my phone rings then the call is on the iPad. (period!)

The iPad is several rooms away and I can rarely get to it to answer in time.

Is it possible to reclaim the call on the iPhone with me?

Hey there tlfmd,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, have you confirmed that all the settings are set up correctly using the steps in this link here: Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Set up iPhone Cellular Calls
You can use iPhone Cellular Calls with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. It works when your devices are near each other and set up as follows:
- Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
- Each device is signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID.
- Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.
- Each device is connected to the same network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
- On your iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on Calls from iPhone.
- On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone.

If so, since the issue started, have you tried restarting your iPhone? If not, give that a try with these next steps here: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this.

Have a great day!

Hi tlfmd,

To disable calls entirely on the iPad, you can turn off Calls from iPhone. You can see how to disable the feature here:

Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"To stop getting calls on one of your devices, just turn off the Calls from iPhone setting on that device. See the setup section above for details."

Calls should be arriving on all devices when the feature is enabled. To troubleshoot the feature, you can test after turning off Allow Calls on Other Devices on your iPhone, and then turning it back on.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On your iPhone, tap Settings
  2. Tap Phone
  3. Tap Calls on Other Devices
  4. Turn the feature off
  5. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the feature back on

If calls continue to only arrive on your iPad, then reach out to Apple Support directly for further assistance with the behavior. You can use the following link to reach out: Contact - Official Apple Support

Kind regards.
