Has anyone got a solution for this issue? Im a teacher and all my students return their html files and images to Google Classroom. When i'm downloading all the files every single webite show unlinked photo due to the jpg jpeg name change. This is very frustrating of course and i need to change this every time.
Is there an option to disable name change in osx?
Working with Google Classroom with Chrome and not Safari.
I have never seen this happening but then again I don’t use chrome or Google Classroom. I presume that this is caused by that software. macOS does not rename files on download. Check if there are some settings in the software you use that cause this renaming to occur.

Chrome has extensions that do this thing of changing jpg to jpeg (and vice versa).
Maybe you have one those installed? Check your installed extensions.
