Greetings Melboland13,
Is your companion iPhone unlocked when you receive the notification on your Apple Watch? If so, then it's expected behavior to not receive the haptic on your Apple Watch, as the notification will arrive on your iPhone. You can read those details here: Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
To help isolate the behavior, do you feel haptics on your Apple Watch when you adjust the Sounds & Haptics alert slider in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone?
Check out how to adjust the slider in the Apple Watch app below:
Change the audio and notification settings on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
You can also change the settings for specific apps from your iPhone. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, go to the My Watch tab, and tap Sounds & Haptics.
If you're wearing your Apple Watch and you don't feel a tap as you adjust the slider, contact Apple Support. For the best haptic results, the back of your Apple Watch needs skin contact. Use a snug, but comfortable fit.
If you don't feel the tap as expected when following the steps above, then make sure to follow the link to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance.
If you feel the taps when adjusting the slider, then it may help to change the haptics setting to Prominent to have the taps have extra emphasis when you receive a notification. You can see those steps here:

If the issue persists, restart your Apple Watch and ensure watchOS is updated to help troubleshoot the behavior:
Let us know if that helps.
Kind regards.
