Clearing Library Cache

There are a lot of folders in my Library Cache, most of which are blue in color. Is it safe to delete these? There are other folders that are not in blue also. Which ones can I delete or should I not delete any? They say that this is one reason why my desktop runs slow.

Usually, clearing the user's Library Caches folder does not save you much as the next time macOS boots, or you launch various applications, they repopulate that Caches folder with their necessary runtime cached data. Who is the "they" that says this is one reason your desktop runs slow? Pooh.

When you boot into Safe Boot mode, it will clear System caches, but not the local user Caches. In the Finder, press shift+cmd+G and enter the following path, then press return:

~/Library/Caches

and that will open a Finder window on the contents of the Caches folder. Press cmd+A to select everything in it, then right-click and choose Move to Trash. Do not empty the Trash, but reboot normally and then empty the Trash.

Actually, cached data is what the OS and apps use to speed things up.

But if you want, you can start up in Safe Mode. When you get to the desktop, restart again normally. Among other things a Safe Mode startup does, it clears all cache data of the user account you login into with Safe Mode.

You can do the same thing manually by simply putting everything in the Cache folder of your user account in the trash and restart the computer.
