Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and Pro 9000 Mark II

Two good printers and have a lot of ink. Canon stopped supporting these printers and there are no driver nor software upgrades for macOS Monterey. Seems like the printers are intel based. So I'm looking to buy without spending a lot of money either a pc

computer or Chromebook which will work with the Pro 9000s from which I can print. Looks like it would work with Windows 7 up to 10. This device will need to print documents sent to it from my Mac. Appreciate specific recommendations.

Here's Canon's site regarding the 9000 driver/printers.

Thank you!

Hi,

Sometimes, an old driver will work even if not supported for a new operating system. In other cases, it is not even possible to install a package containing a driver. Would it be correct to assume that you have actually tested the (macOS 10.13 High Sierra) Pro9000 Mark II series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 16.20.0.0 (Mac) from the Canon site with macOS 12 Monterey? Or maybe the Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for macOS (despite the system requirements limitation)? Of course, software conflicts or other problems cannot be ruled out in connection with a test, so it is important to have backup copies of all important files before doing anything.

Hi Jan,

Thank you! While I thought about it, no, I hadn't downloaded nor tested High Sierra. As you wrote, software conflicts cannot be ruled out so I'm reluctant to go that route but... .

And thanks also for the second suggestion. I did finally remember that I had (and found) an old Dell with Windows XP Pro and was successful in downloading the software and driver and produced a test print. Now the issue is transferring files from the MAC to this old operating system initially by figuring out how to implement Outlook Express (it's not filling info in automatically) in order to receive .pdfs by email or we'll try a thumb drive & see if that works.

I appreciate your responses and good suggestions.

Hello Debbie,

Thank you for the report.

It is understandable that you do not want to test an old printer driver (for High Sierra) on a macOS 12 Monterey Mac.

Good to hear that you found a working PC with Windows XP Professional. I do not know any details about how XP and Outlook Express can be made to work in a modern context. The alternative would be to use a webmail service, but you may then run into difficulties with incompatible web browsers. Most browsers (or browser versions) capable of working under Windows XP will have some problems with modern (secure) web sites. This can also affect an attempt to use a cloud drive service.

Instead, you may want to carry out a few experiments with purely local network transfers. The Dell PC could be wired by Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of a Wi-Fi router (maybe even wirelessly connected). One idea may be to use a shared folder on the Windows XP PC.

Using a USB thumb/pen/flash drive is always another possibility, as you also indicated.
