It isn't harmful to use the MacBook Air while it is charging.

Optimized Battery Charging: This feature helps to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by learning your daily charging routine. It delays charging the battery past 80% when it predicts that you’ll be plugged in for an extended period of time, and aims to charge the battery before you unplug. You can change this option in Battery preferences.

It should not cause a problem. Also, you can activate optimised battery charging to reduce battery ageing.

If you want, to get the extreme battery health, you should install this app: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/63002/aldente, called AIDENTE. It helps you to decide at what percentage it stops charging (you can keep the charger connected all the time, basically using it as a desktop).
