iPod classic movies and my mac Monterey

I have an iPod classic on which are stored lots of home movies made using iMovie. On my previous Macs I could sync these with my iMac. But I cannot seem to see them on my Monterey iMac computer. The iPod shows up as a device on the desktop, but a double click on it shows folders for music, calendar etc, but none of my movies. Are they accessible for my Monterey iMac and if so how? I know they are still on my iPod classic because I can connect it to my TV and view them there.

Ignore the advice for iTunes that you cannot follow, open the view that shows folders for contacts, calendar, notes and recordings, then press shift+cmd+. to reveal hidden files. Your video files are going to scattered within the iPod_Control/Music/F## folders with randomised file names. You will need to copy these to your computer and unhide them, add them the TV app via the Automatically Add to TV folder, then rename them if they don't arrive with any meaningful metadata.

Thank you for your detailed answer. I have only just read it, it’s early morning (!) so I have yet to try what you have written. I shall let you know later how I have got on. However, as a general comment I find it annoying that I use an Apple product (the iPod classic) with my latest iMac, and it now seems to be such a rigmarole synchronising my home movies made with Apple software. It used to be so easy. All because Apple improved the iMac. ! ! Peter

I have now had a chance to start on what you wrote. I clicked on the link you gave 'Recover media from an iPod' and started to follow the instructions. But I did not get very far because early on it says go to 'iTunes > Preferences > Devices (Mac) '. But the problem is, I have an iMac that I have purchased this year with Monterey as the operating system and the chip is Apple M1. And that neither has iTunes on it nor can I install iTunes on it. In its place is installed when purchased 'Music' . So the instruction iTunes > Preferences > Devices (Mac) is just not possible. If I connect my iPod to this mac the iPod classic shows up in the Music app on the iMac, and that shows the music on my iPod classic, but there is no sign of my movies. The iPod shows up as a device on the desktop of my iMac running Monterey. If I double click on the iPod icon it opens, and shows my contacts, my calendar, but there is no sign of my movies. Yet as I wrote before, I know the movies are there because I can connect my iPod to my tv (via the approved adaptor) and I can both see all the movies listed and also play them. So what do I do now? Thank you for your detailed reply, written so that I, as almost an octogenarian and non computer buff, can follow and understand. So now all good and movies found. Thanks for your help. But I still am irritated that Apple by ‘ improving’ things and dumping iTunes, means I can no longer use my iPod classic as easily as I used to…. I am particularly irritated as I have used apple software and hardware only and not third party products. Thank goodness for people like you! Peter
