On typing "exit" in a Terminal window, I get the message: "Saving session...shell_session_save:9: shell_session_save_user_state_functions: parameter not set"
This occurred after I attempted to change the Profile in Terminal > Preferences > Profiles
Any ideas how I can get it to go away?

I'd try deleting. with Terminal not running & restart..
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist

There was no Terminal Crash Report.
Deleting com.apple.Terminal.plist worked.
I understand some plists shouldn't be messed with so I needed reassurance from someone knowledgeable.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

As a general rule of thumb, plists in the user account can be deleted, & they get normally get he normal copy from the one in System or System>Library, sometimes making a new one is built into the App if it doesn't find one.
If worried you can rename it or move it for a test.

"Ask before closing" has "Only if ....." selected.
Thanks. I deleted .zsh_sessions/ and the system regenerated the directory, but the error remains.
shell_sessions seem to be managed by /etc/zsh_Apple_Terminal, but I am not enough of a sys admin to interpret it in order to correct the problem.
Hope I won't have to restore my entire Data volume from a snapshot.

To further clarify, if you do this, then you should log out of the user account and log back in so that the new default settings are used. The old settings won't be released until after logging out of that user account.
