"You'll need to update your Apple Music subscription to allow me to do that for you.”

Recently when I ask Siri to play an Album by a Group, it says You'll need to update your Apple Music subscription to allow me to do that for you.” I have never subscribed to Apply Music. All the music in my library is either a purchase from the iTunes store or from my CD collection. If I ask to play a single song or a playlist then it will comply. Why it is telling me that I have to subscribe to Apple Music to ask for an Album that I OWN.

I was having the same issue. Saw a comment lower in the thread that suggested adding "from my Library" too the end of the request. That did it for me.

This really annoys me for apple to do that. Between this and the decision years ago to remove genius playlists from the phone... I really wish there was some other music option. Apple just keeps getting worse.

Apparently they want to try to force you to subscribe to the "voice plan." Why should I have to pay Apple to tell Siri to play music that I own?

However, I found a solution to the problem on Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleMusic/comments/qq3orb/siri_says_update_your_apple_music_subscription/

"Add “from my library” to the end of your command. It works for me."

I've tried for several commands that failed previously and "it works for me."

Hey there MacUser_2001,

If you haven't already, you could see restarting your iPhone 14 Pro may help Siri play albums without any issues: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support Restarting may help refresh the iOS and resolve unexpected issues.

Another step you can take is to ensure your iPhone is fully updated, to see if that may help as well since updates can includes fixes for issues. You can check for an update in Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an available update, you'll want to backup before updating as seen in here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

This article also shows how to update with a computer if that is your preferred method: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Let us know if that helps or if you've already tried those steps.

Take care!

I am having the same problem. I tried turning off Show Apple Music. It worked on my iPad mini 6. I asked Siri to play Willie Nelson and she did. But I tried it on my iPhone 2020SE and I still got the message about having to update my Apple Music subscription. I've never had a subscription to Apple music. This is music I paid for on iTunes or music I transferred from CDs to my computer to my iPhone. Apple doesn't own any of it!
