Using Amazon Echo as external Bluetooth speaker my MacMini looses connection

 I have a MacMini 2018. I'm running Monterey 12.6.1. Using Bluetooth I connect to a 4th gen Echo as an external speaker. When connected I lose the ability to use the Echo as a speaker. Sometimes the connection lasts a few min, sometimes just seconds. 

The Echo disappears from the list of audio output devices even though the Bluetooth connection remains. The Echo is the only Bluetooth device connected to the MacMini. The Echo is 18" from the MacMini.
