I am getting bounced when I try to reply to a 5 digit text number. I am not blocking them as far as I can see. My phone account allows me to make £10 of "extra" calls/texts (so far my spend is zero). It is very annoying, I almost had a restaurant reservation cancelled because of this. Frustrated is not the word!

Those 5 or 6 digit numbers are used for Short Code Text Messaging. This capability/feature is provided and managed by your carrier. I recommend that you contact your carrier and tell them about having difficulty sending/receiving messages to these short phone numbers. Their support team should be able to address this for you and find a resolution.
