Why does my iPhone keep trying to text a landline when a mobile number is in the contact? This problem started happening a few years ago. It seems that the phone always defaults to texting the
"home" number--despite the fact that the "mobile: number is listed first in the contact. (And despite the fact that the recipient obviously would not receive the message!)

Try this, in the Messages app tap the new thread button at the top right in the Messages app and type in this contact’s mobile number. This won't actually start a new conversation, it should merge with the already existing thread. Then send them a message. This way a message has gone to their mobile number the most recent. Once that is done, send them another message from within the conversation thread. Does it go to the correct number?
If not, can you tell us what is indicating that the messages are attempting to go to a landline?
