Music Folder is a Mess

My Music folder is a mess. I fear that Apple Music and my older iTunes world have collided. I really want to clean this all up. I want one folder with everything in it, and for Music to see ALL of my music. Frankly I am unclear as to where any of my music now resided. Suggestions?

The old .itl files are archives, really. This file is a database of your library now replaced with the Music Library.musiclibrary file.

Thanks Piqûre. What baffles me is why Apple changed from iTunes to Music at all, and once they did why keep all of the dumb iTunes folders. Either way, I'm going to nuke the mp3 files as well as all of the previous libraries (since I have not idea what those are for and why it would matter if they were gone). I mean, what even is Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary anyway? Appreciate the response above.

Sadly Apple haven't provided a way to completely transition an old iTunes library into the new format. Here is the standard layout:

~/Music/Music is the default location of the library, ~ being the user's home folder

~/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary is the library package, replacing iTunes Library.itl et al

~/Music/Music/Media is the media folder, previously iTunes Media or iTunes Music

~/Music/Music/Media/Music is a hangover from iTunes, and contains all artist folders *

You can move and rename your old iTunes Media folder as ~/Music/Music/Media, then delete the iTunes folder. Make sure that Music > Preferences > Files has adjusted accordingly, or reset if needed. The Automatically Add to iTunes folder is redundant too.
