Mail app only following one rule all of a sudden

yikes! suddenly yesterday all of my mail is following the rules i created for just one mailbox, sending everything there, mostly those with no rules attached that i just like to have come to the inbox. what's happening?

it's v16.0 and I am running on Monterey 12.5.
