iMac squeaking - iMac Retina 5k, 27-inch Late 2015

Can a computer squeak?

Mine does lately.

I thought it might be the disk drive, but drive is listed as internal_250GB_SSD.

Some previous questions indicate it might be the fan, but it starts and stops so abruptly I'm not immediately getting a mental picture of how a fan could do that, or make this noise.

I've seen from YouTube videos how to get this thing apart, and the insides look simple,

and if it was the disk drive, a mechanical part I'm sure I could find one and replace it,

but a fan? Not even sure where to find a replacement fan.


Anyone with the same problem, and anyone know the best way to handle it?

iMac 27″, OS X 10.11

Apple Diagnostics will exercise the Mac's fans. Perhaps you can correlate that noise with what you are hearing:
