App Store updates notification

Hello everybody.

I've noticed an issue affecting the App Store icon of my brand-new iPhone 14 Pro (running iOS 16.0.3, powered on for the first time on Monday).

The App Store icon in the home screen does not display the number of available updates in its upper right corner: I have to open the App Store, tap my profile's icon (which does not display the number of available updates as well) in the upper right corner of the app and swipe down to search for apps' updates; all the necessary notifications and badges are enabled, battery is in low power mode.

This issued did not occur on my old iPhone 12 running the same iOS version.

I've also submitted a bug report using the Apple Product Feedback web site.

Thank you.

Hey there LuigiBruno,

It could be that your apps are set to update automatically. Let's check Settings > App Store > App Updates. If this is toggled on, toggle it off, then check periodically to see if there is a badge when new updates are available. You can also check Notifications while in Settings to ensure badges are toggled on for App Store.

Should you still not see badges when updates are available, you'll want to contact Apple Support for help.

Have a good one!

Hi LuigiBruno,

You mentioned that your iPhone 14 Pro is in Low Power Mode. This feature blocks certain background processes from running to save your battery life, and may be preventing the updates from automatically appearing in the app. This would mean that the badge notification won't appear on the App Store app icon, and that manually accessing the updates section triggers them to appear. To see if that is the case, we would recommend turning Low Power Mode off, and testing. More information on Low Power Mode can be found here: Use Low Power Mode to save battery life on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Don't hesitate to respond back if the issue continues without Low Power Mode on.

Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks Lindsay.

It seems that the battery low power mode does not have an impact on the notifications displayed on the App Store icon (and on my account's picture in the App Store app): I've turned off the battery low power mode but the number of available updates for installed apps is still not displayed. I've been using an iPhone 12 from December 2020 until last Sunday and the App Store icon has always displayed the number of available updates for installed apps even when battery low power mode was turned on.

I also want to report that some friends using other iPhone models (13, 13 Pro and 12 Pro) have noticed and confirmed the same thing: it could be a bug in the App Store app.

I've also submitted a bug report using the Apple Product Feedback web site and I've sent a message to the Apple, Apple Support and App Store Twitter profiles: no reply at all.

Thank you.
