Lightning to HDMI no longer working with IOS16 update

It’s was like 5:30 AM in Phoenix and I just had a dream that I hooked up the phone with the adapter and watched downloaded content on my TV! 

Sooo I jumped, up went to Netflix downloaded some random show plugged my Apple lightning to HDMI adapter into my iPhone 14 pro running iOS 17.0.3, switch to airplane mode-no radios. Went back to Netflix since I had no Internet. It only showed me the download page. I press play on that video and it played on my TV with sound and captions just fine. Grabbed my  iPhone 11 and took a crude video of this in action.  it’s pretty rough but it’s proof that it works.  so wi-Fi streaming AND downloaded content  both work for me.

So difference seems one of two things:

—Your running latest IOS 17.0.3

—Im running latest 16.7.2.

Both updates are from just last week.

-Slight possibility airplane mode did not shut off the outgoing app request. For streaming this seems unlikely but is possible.

-Possible Apple has fixed this issue in IOS 17 and only partially fixed IOS 16 for streaming alone. Sad but possible.

Bottom line Ive been visiting my very sick mother for last two weeks in hospital in a different city and Apple has made my life much harder and much more stressful. I downloaded 20 plus movies to keep me occupied in the hospital and none will play! None of my downloaded content - Netflix- amazon -apple+ nor Crave will play any video -plays only audio on any tv. Personal videos and my own content will play fine for both. So ended up I had to delete everything then one at a time stream the very same content again using same apps live to actually view both video and audio together. Cant go on free hospital wifi for security reasons so its 5G costly streaming for me. Disgusting waste of my time and my data/ money over and over all because of Apple dropping the ball.

Apple you owe us all big time!

I will be home in a few days and will install latest 17 to see if i get the same suddenly working again experience. If so then its as i thought, Apple just gave up on lightening for IOS 16 and only fixed it in 17. It is the Apple way.

Issue still exists. I have a 13ProMax with iOS 17.2.1 and nothing works. Actually used 4 different types of cables and four different monitors and nothing. Used to work just fine all the time. Sure would be nice if Apple would compensate those affected or warn us about failures smh 🤦‍♂️ big corporations failing again

was just on the line with applecare for over an hour.. Yes..they do blow you off when stating that the IOS 16 update takes away the ability to play Netflix through your apple lightning stick. They hung up on me twice..pretending they had no idea??

So not fair..we pair our monthly fee to use these streaming apps..then apple dictates our usage!! We buy apple products..right now have 7 products…not understanding why they can’t be more user friendly?

Anyone else frustrated???

I tried all of the items listed above and I tried 2 different connections to 2 different TVs.

The only difference was the update to new SW yesterday. What is going on with the new update?

Completely agree!! Everything worked fine with the Apple lightening to HDMI adapter until this last update and now all

of a sudden it doesn't work!! Wth?!?!

It works on my ipad and iphone 13 pro max running 16.2 but the iphone 14 pro max it won't work. That is also running 16.2 so it's more of a phone issue I think then an IOS problem.

A quick test with IOS 16.3 on my iPhone 13 it looks like they fixed it.

hdmi adapter not working, iOS 16.3. New iPhone 14pro.

used to work on older 12pro and pre 16.0 release.

looks like apple not taking action and this may be a permanent fail.

My tests conclude….The only reason streaming will not work with your IPhone is the adapter. It MUST be an Apple adapter. Plain and simple!!!!

My tests conclude, you must have the Apple adapter or you’re wasting your time.

IOS 16.7.8 updated on a IPhone 8 Plus with an Apple adapter. Watching Direct TV stream with no problem. I do know that a knockoff adapter won’t work. Strange……

I have the exact same problem I’m not understanding why Apple won’t put in a patch to help all the users who spend their good money to buy Apple approved HDMI adapters. I can no longer watch streaming apps with my HDMI cord and hdmi adapter. And I am certainly not going out to buy a new one just to have this problem reoccur.

Just called Apple and was told they have submitted the issue, but have no ETA as to when it will be fixed. I guess it’s not important enough for them to address right away. I’ve also submitted complaints to Apple directly, but I don’t think they care.
