Lightning to HDMI no longer working with IOS16 update

Lightning av adapter to HDMI no longer working after IOS16 update. Updated to current iOS 16.0.3 using Apple certified cord, turned off and on, phone is updated and backed up. It work until ios16. Another phone works, but not updated to the iOS16. For example Netflix mirrors from phone to tv and will play the trailer, but once I hit play the screen goes black and says now playing on your tv. But is not playing anything. How can I fix this issue? Thank you.

Agreed! The fact that people are buying new Apple converters and HDMI cables (including myself) and paid over $100 the issue is now becoming financial and not just an annoyance. Imagine all of the people who think it’s an HDMI or Apple adapter issue and have probably spent around $100 too.

I’m sorry but most large cooperations don’t care until there is financial repercussions involved. This issue has been going on for over two months- look at some of the older posts online. Very frustrating.

I totally agree and I am lucky as I still have my iPhone 6 that I use to read my books and also download shows to watch at camp as we don’t have internet there. Also, I have 2 adapters (1 for home and 1 for camp). I tried both on 2 different tv’s and realized right away that it was apples problem and not mine so I didn’t buy new ones. This hasn’t cost me anything but a lot of aggravation!

I have the same problem, and I just made a post about how discriminatory it was for Apple to restrict HDMI for people with visual disabilities, because we have to watch on a TV, and so many senior citizens and disabled people on a limited income live in rural areas that they have to deal with bad Internet connections all the time. I’m not surprised that when I talk about this new policy being discriminatory that Apple removed the comment. It’s kind of like Apple doesn’t want people to know that they’re discriminating against people with visual impairments.

hey Apple, I am visually impaired, and in order to watch streaming services, while I am bedridden, so I am not staring at four walls all day long while in debilitating pain with nothing to take my mind off of it, I have to use the HDMI cable. I live in a rural area and my Internet speed and reliability does not support airplay.

I have checked all of my streaming services, and while they worked this morning, every single one of them stopped working after the iOS 16 update. That should be helpful, because now you know it’s the iOS 16 update on my iPhone 11. If you delete this comment now, we will know it’s because you don’t want anybody telling you that Apple is discriminating against the visually impaired by denying them access to a device that makes them able to see the content they are streaming.

once again, I have already followed all the troubleshooting advice that I have found on multiple websites, and I only started having this problem after updating my phone today.

Apple should be ashamed to still take people's money for this adapter when they know that it no longer works! Here's what they are still stating on their site:

"Use the Lightning Digital AV Adapter with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector. The Lightning Digital AV Adapter supports mirroring of what is displayed on your device screen — including apps, presentations, websites, slideshows, and more — to your HDMI-equipped TV, display, projector, or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD.

It also outputs video content — movies, TV shows, captured video — to your big screen in up to 1080p HD. Simply attach the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Lightning connector on your device and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately)."

There should be a class action suit started and all consumers with this adapter should receive $50 in damages.

They need to fix this issue. They are clearly aware of it.

There is no consideration for people who live in rural areas. No way to get fiber optic cable; satellite is way too expensive and unreliable.

I’ve read this is an intentional change to stop pirating. So everyone gets punished because of a few dishonest people! I believe that apple and the streaming companies are working together on this.

I could have access with a hot spot, but it’s yet another charge, and if you don’t want video feeds to stop and buffer every few minutes, you have to pay even more for faster speed, and that is also limited.

It’s not worth the money, and I really don’t like being forced into spending my limited funds.

What ever happened to internet access for everyone???

I’ve cancelled Netflix, HBO. There’s $30/ month back in my pocket. I won’t pretend that I haven’t enjoyed them, but we’ve been conditioned to think we need these services. There was a time when these things didn’t exist, and we were fine, maybe even better off for some of us. I’m using my time and money elsewhere.

I waited until the most recent update to try again, and nothing has changed. On days when I am too ill to get out of bed, my only options are staring at the four walls, because my rural connection means buffering renders streaming programs entirely unwatchable. I’m going to reiterate that this is entirely discriminatory against the visually impaired and disabled, because we NEED larger screens in order to be able to view these services. At this point, I can only suggest that anybody who ever bought a dongle should consider a lawsuit, but I am going to end up having to file an ADA complaint.

I have the 16.2 update, and at this point, I am assuming that Apple has no intention of fixing the problem. I find it astonishing that the company which refused to bow to pressure from the US government for security purposes would bow to the pressure of media streaming agencies for the sake of profit.

Disgusted.

I already canceled Hulu. I just sent an email to Paramount to let them know that if the problem isn’t fixed before my next payment due date, I will be canceling them, as well. Prime will follow right after that. I suggest to everybody to start canceling their services and make sure the carrier knows this is why.

I am having this issue, only since I upgraded to IOS 16.

Only 3 out of 15 streaming apps are working.

One of the streaming apps that no longer works when using the digital a/v adapter is APPLE TV+.

While streaming a show, when I plug in the adapter, the following message appears…

“There is a problem loading this content”.

This also happens playing content I have stored locally.

Thank you HA02. I have been going crazy for over three months trying to figure this out. Late September 22 I was trying to watch Amazon via my HDMI - Lightning Apple adapter and the picture was choppy at best with no sound. Tried with my wife’s 12 Pro Max with the same result. Tried troubleshooting for a couple of hours. I get alerts when my software needs updating and my software was updated, as usual.

The other day I connected my adapter to my friends iPhone 10 and it worked/streamed flawlessly just like it used to for me. Reconnected to my 12 Pro Max and still had problems.

Tonight I am at a hotel and I can’t stream anything. Literally have spent 3 hours trying everything and then came across this thread. Glad I am not going crazy.

Apple really needs to fix this ASAP!!! This is absolutely unacceptable. I owned my first MAC SE in 1988 ($2500) and have never encountered the pain and suffering that this software update has caused me. Everyone streams
