problem in connecting Mac to external monitor

I tried to connect an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, however, there's no response at all. I cannot see the monitor being connected under the display function. Anyone know what goes wrong? Thanks

I'm not sure how to connect the external display to your MacBook Pro, though following article could help your issue.
