iPhone XS. Running latest IOS. Went to my Local ee store. Asked them for the QR code required to set up esim. They generated the QRcode but could not establish a network connection with ee while instore and using their wi-fi. Does any one have a similar experience and hopefully a solution.

Perhaps you can use a friend or family's phone to call your carrier instead.
Find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service - Apple Support
They might be able to send the QR code via text or email. It's worth a shot, to maybe save yourself a trip.
