Edit memo on iPhone XR: trim and delete in grey only

When I am trying to delete 30 sec from the beginning of a selection neither trim or delete are highlighted - only grey so can’t select either

For help with editing Voice Memos, test the steps below found in the article here: Edit or delete a recording in Voice Memos on iPhone - Apple Support


"Trim the excess

  1. In the list of recordings, tap the recording you want to edit, tap the More Actions button, then tap Edit Recording.
  2. Tap the Trim button at the top right, then drag the yellow trim handles to enclose the section you want to keep or delete.
  3. You can pinch open to zoom in on the waveform for more precise editing.
  4. A recording being trimmed, with the yellow trim handles enclosing a portion of the audio waveform at the bottom of the screen. A Play button and a recording timer appear above the waveform. The trim handles are below the Play button. The Trim button for deleting the part of the recording outside the handles, and the Delete button for deleting the part of the recording inside the handles, are on either side of the Play button.
  5. To check your selection, tap the Play button.
  6. To keep the selection (and delete the rest of the recording), tap Trim, or to delete the selection, tap Delete.
  7. Tap Save, then tap Done."



If the issue continues, ensure your iOS is fully updated, close the Voice Memo app and complete a normal restart of your iPhone to test.
