I've tried this several times and got the same thing every time. Any help would be appreciated.

That’s an update to your Mac that is required for the phone to connect.
I would try restarting the Mac, connect the phone again and see if that helps.

Without knowing what you are trying to download, I can only recommend that your check with the administrators of that software/app/whatever and ask what the requirements are. Hopefully they can help.
