Apple TV 3rd Gen

I am trying to log into my iCloud account from my 3rd Gen Apple TV - it asks for the 2 factor authentication code an dI get a message saying iCloud is currently unavailable. I used the ID for the iTunes Store login without any issues - the 2 Factor Authentication worked fine, so what is the issue here? I have tried pasting the code into the password as described in other discussions, but still get the same message.

If you have an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) and two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, then you may be asked to type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field. Additionally, there is a time limit, after which the code becomes invalid.

Try this: First enter the characters of your password (do not submit yet), then manually request a new verification code, then append that code to the password (no spaces or other separating characters), and then submit. That should help you get passed the time limit.

They have bricked a lot of devices. It’s not just the Apple TV 3. I had two older iPads that I used as a home hub and an older MacBook Air that I used as a server and can no longer use any of them for that purpose. So I had to go out and buy a new home hub (which is exactly what Apple was wanting) and it allegedly can be used as a speaker for Apple TV. Since I didn’t want to buy new Apple TV before I tested it out, I hooked up the old Apple TV 3 to test it, and lo and behold, it won’t connect to iCloud either. I think this new iCloud and HomeKit framework was just an excuse to brick devices so that we would have to go out and buy new ones. I consider the theft. I paid for these items and they took them away.

As a loyal Apple customer of fifteen years I was shocked to hear that they don’t consider halting iCloud support for 3rd Gen Apps TVs as cutting off a significant part of the customer base. Kind of dumb, considering the people in my age group have more in the way of disposable income now their children are starting to leave home.

WTAF Apple - just sort out iCloud on 3rd Gen Apple TVs!

Did anyone get some resolution with this issue? Why on earth can two step authentication NOT be turned off. Absolutely stupid especially as it’s not compatible with Apple TV3 and the fix suggested (putting verification code on end of password) does not work. I have used Apple products for so many years now and this has made me re-think who I want my business to go to. Rant aside, I’m keen to hear if anyone has a tip to fix this that actually works.

I am just now hitting this same problem with my Apple TV 3rd gen.

It looks like Apple tried to make these work with the 2FA for iCloud, because the TVos 7.9 software now has a place to input the 2FA code, which it didn’t before.

Maybe Apple will eventually fix this in a new release of TVOS?

In the mean time I will be buying the Roku stick, and probably drop my Apple TV+ subscription.

I just called apple support and tried it while on the phone with support. I put in my password and then got the two-factor code and much to my surprise it worked. Just a couple days ago the "iCloud Service not available" error was happening but today while on the phone with apple support it worked. Maybe the solution is to call Apple Support and log in while they are on the phone with you? Ha ha, just kidding! Still....
