I just upgraded from iPhone 12 to iPhone 14 pro. I have an Apple Watch 3 when I tried to pair to new phone, I had to unpair from phone then repair, when I do this, I follow the steps but when I get to the upgrade (won't pair until I upgrade watch) it downloads update but gets stuck on preparing. I don't want to purchase another watch. Looking for suggestions on how to pair successfully.

To restart your iPhone:
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider and wait about 30 seconds.
3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears to power it back on. Once back on, test to see if this continues.

Once restarted, you can try to update it again.

Same issue. Trying to connect series 3 watch to new iPhone 13. Update downloads but gets stuck on “preparing”. Already tried unpairing, restarting phone and watch but nothing works.
Please do not suggest powering down, resetting watch and iPhone to factory defaults as I have already tried these things.
What else can I try besides taking it in for a genius appointment. Thanks.
